In August of 2021, I contracted COVID-19. A few days into my illness, my sense of taste and smell disappeared/was distorted, from which I have never recovered. This often caused me frustration and grief when eating with friends and family as they would ask, "How's your food?" or "Taste this!" I decided to create a symbol that would represent Long COVID-19, particularly connected to taste and smell disorders, to bring unity and awareness to those suffering from this awful condition. I named my symbol "Swirl of Hope". After some legal transactions were completed, the SOH became official!! At that time, I needed to develop and maintain a website. As a retired kindergarten teacher, I had absolutely NO CLUE how to do that!!
