Should I use the ID or the full path for the category?

Both are accepted, but using the numeric ID 4040 is preferred because it is language-independent and less prone to formatting errors.

Does this category affect who sees my ads?

No, the google_product_category does not limit your audience or visibility; it simply helps Google understand your product data better.

Can I use my own internal classification instead of this category?

Yes, you can use the product_type attribute for your internal classification, but it does not replace the mandatory or optional google_product_category.

About the Scopes Category

The Scopes category, identified by ID 4040, is located under Cameras & Optics > Optics > Scopes. It is designed to house specialized optical sighting and inspection instruments that facilitate magnification or visual assistance for users.

What Belongs in This Category

This category includes devices used for magnifying targets or inspecting hidden areas. Examples of products found in the US market fitting this classification include:

Archery target sights and scope kits for compound or recurve bows.
Digital inspection and snake scopes for detailed viewing in tight spaces.
Multi-purpose optical tools used for close-up inspection tasks.

What Does Not Belong Here

Do not place products in this category that belong to the neighboring Optics segments. Rangefinders belong in the Rangefinders category, handheld binoculars go to Binoculars, and single-eye magnifying devices belong to Monoculars. These categories are distinct from Scopes and require their own specific classification.

Choosing a Subcategory

If your product falls into a more specialized group, select a subcategory rather than the general Scopes category. Use Telescopes for astronomical devices, Weapon Scopes & Sights for firearm-specific attachments, or Spotting Scopes for long-range terrestrial observation devices.

Feed Implementation

Use the ID 4040 or the full path "Cameras & Optics > Optics > Scopes" within your google_product_category attribute. While this field is optional, providing it ensures Google processes your feed correctly, as automatic categorization may be inaccurate for specialized optical gear.
