Understanding the Marine Radios Category
The Marine Radios category, identified by ID 4450, is part of the Electronics taxonomy used to classify communication equipment specifically designed for maritime environments. This category is located within the Electronics > Marine Electronics hierarchy.
What Belongs in This Category
This category is intended for specialized marine communication devices used for safety and coordination. Based on product examples from the US market, this includes the following types of items:
- Fixed-mount VHF/DSC marine radios for vessel communication.
- Floating handheld VHF marine radios designed for portability and safety.
- Recreational SSB radios used for long-range marine communication.
What Does Not Belong Here
Items that do not function primarily as communication radios should be placed in their respective neighbouring categories under Marine Electronics. These include:
- Fish Finders and Marine Radar devices for navigation and detection.
- Marine Chartplotters & GPS units.
- Marine Audio & Video Receivers and Marine Speakers for entertainment systems.
Ensure that your product_type attribute remains a separate, free-form classification tool, as it does not replace the requirement for a valid google_product_category.
Feed Implementation
To assign this category in your feed, you may use the numeric ID 4450 or the full path Electronics > Marine Electronics > Marine Radios. While this attribute is optional, providing it manually prevents Google from miscategorizing your inventory using its automatic system.
