Should I use ID 4195 or the full path?

Both are valid, but using the numeric ID 4195 is preferred as it is language-independent and less prone to errors during feed processing.

Is the google_product_category attribute mandatory for my dressers?

It is technically optional, but you should provide it to ensure Google correctly classifies your items instead of relying on their automated system.

Can I use product_type instead of the google_product_category?

No, product_type is for your own internal classification and does not replace the required Google Product Taxonomy classification.

Understanding the Dressers Category

The Dressers category, identified by the Google Product Category ID 4195, belongs to the Furniture > Cabinets & Storage hierarchy. This specific level is designated for furniture pieces primarily designed for storing clothing or personal items through the use of horizontal drawers.

What Belongs in This Category

This category is intended for standard bedroom furniture and storage units equipped with multiple drawers. Examples from the US market include wood or fabric-based items such as six-drawer horizontal dressers, mahogany wide dressers with marble tops, or multi-drawer storage pieces featuring five to nine drawers. These items are typically used in residential bedroom settings for organizational purposes and do not serve the specific functional roles found in other storage-related categories.

What Does Not Belong Here

Products that do not fit into this category should be directed to the appropriate neighbouring classifications to ensure accurate categorization. Do not include products in this category if they fall under the following labels: Buffets & Sideboards, China Cabinets & Hutches, File Cabinets, Armoires & Wardrobes, Vanities, Storage Chests, Wine Racks, Storage Cabinets & Lockers, Wine & Liquor Cabinets, Media Storage Cabinets & Racks, Magazine Racks, Kitchen Cabinets, or Ironing Centers.

How to Use This in Your Feed

To categorize your items, use the value 4195 or the full path Furniture > Cabinets & Storage > Dressers in your google_product_category attribute. While this attribute is optional, providing it manually is highly recommended as it prevents Google from misclassifying your products based on automated, often less accurate, algorithmic scans of your data.
