Should I use the ID or the full path for Office Furniture Sets?

Both are accepted by Google, but using the numeric ID 500061 is often preferred because it is language-independent and less prone to formatting errors.

Can I use product_type instead of google_product_category?

No. The google_product_category is a standardized taxonomy for Google, whereas product_type is a free-form field for your own internal product classification.

Is it mandatory to include the google_product_category in my feed?

It is optional, but highly recommended. If you omit it, Google will attempt to categorize your products automatically, which may result in incorrect placements.

Understanding Office Furniture Sets

The Office Furniture Sets category, identified by the numeric ID 500061, is located under the path Furniture > Office Furniture > Office Furniture Sets. It is a third-level classification intended for bundled office furniture collections sold as a single unit.

What belongs in this category

This category is specifically for coordinated collections of office furniture pieces sold together. Examples found in the US market include:

Configurable writing desk sets
L-shaped home office furniture collections
Executive desk sets featuring matching storage or accessories
Bundled home office sets from luxury furniture lines

What does not belong here

Products that consist of a single type of furniture should be placed in more specific neighbouring categories rather than sets. For example:

Office Chairs belong in Office Chairs.
Standalone desks go to Desks.
Multi-purpose surface furniture belongs in Workspace Tables.
Modular systems or partitioned units belong in Workstations & Cubicles.

Feed implementation details

To categorize your items, you can use the ID 500061 or the path Furniture > Office Furniture > Office Furniture Sets in the google_product_category attribute. While this attribute is optional, providing it manually prevents Google from misclassifying your products and ensures your feed uses more accurate metadata than automated assignments. Note that product_type remains a separate, free-form field for your internal organizational needs and does not replace the required google_product_category value for Google Shopping eligibility.
