Understanding the Film & Television VHS Tapes Category
The Film & Television VHS Tapes category, identified by ID 543528, is a specific leaf node within the Media > DVDs & Videos taxonomy. This category is strictly reserved for physical video cassette tapes containing motion pictures or television content.
What Belongs in This Category
This category includes analog magnetic tape media designed for VCR playback. Based on examples from the US market, appropriate items include:
- Classic animated features and children's movies
- Action, adventure, and thriller titles from the VHS era
- Vintage comedy and drama films
- Collections of mixed-genre movie tapes
What Does Not Belong Here
Products that do not fit the definition of a physical VHS tape should be categorized elsewhere within the DVDs & Videos hierarchy. Do not place items in this category if they fall under the following neighboring classifications:
- Film & Television DVDs: Use this for physical digital versatile discs.
- Film & Television Digital Downloads: Use this for intangible content delivered via electronic distribution or streaming services.
Ensure that your classification is precise. If a product is not a magnetic tape, selecting this category may lead to attribute mismatch errors in your Google Merchant Center feed.
How to Use This Category
In your feed, you may use either the ID 543528 or the full path Media > DVDs & Videos > Film & Television VHS Tapes. While this attribute is optional, providing it manually prevents Google from miscategorizing your media inventory based on automatic processes. Remember that the google_product_category is distinct from the free-form product_type attribute, which remains for your internal organizational use.
