Understanding the Baseball & Softball Category (1070)
The Baseball & Softball category, identified by numeric ID 1070, is a specialized segment within the Google Product Taxonomy for items used in these sports. It resides under the path Sporting Goods > Athletics > Baseball & Softball, functioning as the primary classification for gear strictly designed for play on the diamond.
What Belongs Here
This category is intended for essential equipment used by players and teams. Based on US market trends, this includes professional and recreational wooden, composite, and metal bats for various leagues. Common examples include:
- BBCOR, USA, and USSSA certified baseball bats
- Wood composite bats for training or league play
- Tee-ball specific bats
What Does Not Belong Here
Avoid placing items that fit into other neighbouring categories such as Coaching & Officiating for umpire gear or general apparel stores. Products belonging to other athletic disciplines like Field Hockey & Lacrosse or Cricket should be categorized in their respective paths rather than this one. Always ensure that non-specific items are placed in General Purpose Athletic Equipment if they lack a clear sport-specific designation.
Choosing a Subcategory
Use a specific subcategory instead of this root category if your product is a distinct component, such as Baseball & Softball Gloves & Mitts, Pitching Machines, or Protective Gear. Always prioritize the most granular level available to ensure Google correctly identifies your product attributes.
Feed Implementation
To implement, use either the numeric ID 1070 or the full path Sporting Goods > Athletics > Baseball & Softball. While optional, providing this category helps Google avoid incorrect automatic assignments and ensures your product listings receive appropriate visibility.
