Is it mandatory to use the google_product_category for slot machines?

It is optional, but highly recommended. Providing it manually ensures your products are classified accurately, whereas Google's automatic system may assign an incorrect or overly broad category.

Should I use the ID or the full path in my feed?

Both are acceptable. Using the numeric ID 8472 is often preferred as it is language-independent and less prone to formatting errors.

Can I use the product_type attribute to categorize my slot machines instead?

No. The product_type attribute is for your internal classification and does not override the Google product taxonomy requirements.

Category Overview

The Slot Machines category, identified by ID 8472, falls under the Toys & Games hierarchy. This specific classification is essential for merchants selling novelty gambling-themed items, ranging from authentic reconditioned gaming cabinets to small-scale novelty banks designed for children or home decor.

What Belongs in This Category

This category is intended for products that replicate the functionality or appearance of casino-style slot machines. Examples observed in the US market include:

Desktop novelty banks designed to look like classic slot machines.
Full-sized or tabletop casino-style gaming cabinets for home use.
Miniature electronic slot game units for novelty or recreational play.

What Does Not Belong Here

This category is specifically for slot-themed items. Other gaming products must be categorized differently. Items such as poker chips, blackjack sets, or roulette wheels belong in their own dedicated categories within the Games branch. Specifically, do not place these items here: Board Games, Card Games, Bingo Sets, Poker Chips & Sets, Blackjack & Craps Sets, or Roulette Wheels & Sets. Ensure you review the full hierarchy to find the exact match for your specific game type.

Feed Implementation

To implement this category in your feed, use the google_product_category attribute. You may use the numeric ID 8472 or the full path: Toys & Games > Games > Slot Machines. While this attribute is optional, providing it manually prevents Google from miscategorizing your inventory, as automatic assignment can often be too general. Remember that the product_type attribute remains a separate, free-form field for your internal organization and does not replace the Google-defined category.
